Chennai-based investment adviser Muthukrishnan Dhandapani has urged Indian families to prepare for potentially difficult economic conditions by building an emergency fund capable of covering up to three years of household expenses. In a post on X, he advised people to avoid taking fresh loans and to reconsider long-term financial commitments such as buying a house or investing in real estate. He also suggested prioritising income security over specific job titles or roles.
Dhandapani clarified that his comments were not meant to suggest that an economic collapse is imminent. He said the world has faced financial crises in the past and could experience them again, stressing that financial preparedness can help families manage difficult periods. His remarks have triggered debate online, with some users supporting the advice while others questioning whether middle-class families can realistically build savings equivalent to three years of household expenses.
