India is well positioned to strengthen its presence in the global semiconductor industry, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has said. Highlighting the growing importance of semiconductor chips, he noted that demand is increasing across several sectors, including consumer electronics, automobiles and artificial intelligence. As chips become essential components in modern technologies and industrial applications, India has an opportunity to expand its role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
However, Chandrasekaran cautioned that the country’s semiconductor ambitions will depend on more than investment and manufacturing capacity. Sustained market demand, effective management and the ability to make large-scale projects financially viable will be critical to the sector’s long-term success. Building a competitive semiconductor industry will therefore require a balance between technological development, commercial discipline and realistic assessments of market opportunities.
