Texas based enterprise software company IgniteTech has drawn global attention after its CEO, Eric Vaughan, revealed that the company replaced nearly 80% of its workforce because many employees refused to adopt artificial intelligence tools. Speaking at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech event, Vaughan said the company began transforming into an “AI-first” organization in 2023, believing that generative AI would reshape the business world.
As part of the transition, the company introduced weekly “AI Mondays,” provided AI tools training, prompt engineering courses, and spent nearly 20% of its total payroll on employee upskilling. However, resistance remained strong in some departments. Vaughan said that between 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, hundreds of employees were replaced after rejecting AI adoption. He added that changing mindsets proved more difficult than teaching new skills and maintained that he would make the same decision again if faced with a similar situation.
