Air India has introduced a new “Basic Fare” category for economy passengers looking for lower ticket prices. The airline said the option has been launched on select domestic routes and is completely optional. Passengers who prefer complimentary meals can continue choosing the Value, Classic, or Flex fare categories.
Under the Basic Fare category, passengers will receive an allowance of 15 kg checked baggage and 7 kg cabin baggage, along with complimentary tea or coffee. However, free meals will not be included. Travelers who wish to purchase meals can pre book vegetarian, non-vegetarian, Jain, or diabetic meal options up to 24 hours before departure. Air India said the future of the scheme will depend on customer response.
