The perception that a luxury car must be brand new is gradually changing, with young buyers increasingly opting for pre-owned premium vehicles. Rising prices of new cars and growing aspirations for premium mobility are driving demand for used luxury cars, which have become an accessible entry point into the luxury segment. The average age of buyers in this market is currently 35–40 years. The pre-owned luxury car market grew by around 21% in the first half of this year compared with the previous year, while the average selling price rose by 25%. Cars priced between ₹15 lakh and ₹30 lakh are emerging as a key segment, while SUVs are attracting stronger demand than sedans. Diesel models are also witnessing continued interest.
Buyers are looking beyond brand names and evaluating factors such as the vehicle’s manufacturing year, condition, service history, accident record, remaining warranty, maintenance costs and resale value. Interest in pre-owned luxury EVs is also increasing as some models become available at attractive prices, but concerns over battery health, range, replacement costs and warranty remain. With the festive season approaching, market players expect sales of pre-owned luxury cars to rise by around 30% during the October–December quarter. Easy financing and after-sales support are further boosting confidence in the organised pre-owned car market.
