AP Green Executive Committee Chairman Nagababu has called for a comprehensive action plan to increase Andhra Pradesh’s combined forest and tree cover to 50% of the state’s geographical area by 2047. Speaking at the committee’s first meeting in Mangalagiri, he stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the Forest, Panchayat Raj, Municipal, Roads and Buildings, Education and Industries departments, along with local bodies, citizens, voluntary organisations, students and industries.
Nagababu said the state has set a target of preparing 10 crore saplings through nurseries during the 2026–27 financial year, with emphasis on quality, survival rates and native species suited to local conditions. He called for greater greenery along roads, coastal areas and government lands, along with tree banks and plantation models such as Miyawaki and dense plantations. He also stressed the need for industry participation through CSR and other resources, as well as geo-tagging, digital records and continuous monitoring to track plantations from nursery to survival. He said the effort should focus not merely on planting trees but on ensuring their healthy growth for future generations.
