Bangladesh President Resigns

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned from his post on July 24 by submitting his resignation letter to the Speaker under Article 50(3) of the Constitution. His term was originally scheduled to continue until April 2028.

In his resignation letter, Shahabuddin cited serious health issues, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney related complications, a previous bypass surgery, and a recent diagnosis of autonomic neuropathy, which requires long-term treatment. He also defended his constitutional role in steering the country following the political crisis of August 2024.
