Bar Council of India Withdraws Ban on NALSAR Students

Bar Council of India Withdraws Ban on NALSAR Students

NALSAR Vice-Chancellor Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao has said the university will examine whether the inquiry sought by the Bar Council of India (BCI) into the recent controversy is constitutionally valid and permissible under the university’s governance regulations. The matter will be placed before the university’s Executive Council, and a decision will be communicated to the BCI after due consultation. The development comes amid a controversy surrounding the university’s upcoming convocation and allegations that several students campaigned against Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant.

The BCI had earlier imposed a ban on the enrolment process for students of the 2026 batch following the controversy. However, BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra later said it would be inappropriate to punish all students for the alleged actions of a few and announced that the decision was being withdrawn. Students are now allowed to enrol with Bar Councils in states of their choice. At the same time, the BCI has directed the university administration to submit a report containing the names of students who allegedly campaigned against Justice Surya Kant and those who allegedly incited them, including members of the faculty.
