A political controversy has erupted in Punjab after a photograph resembling freedom fighter Bhagat Singh reportedly appeared against a voter’s name in the electoral roll for the Ludhiana East Assembly constituency. Congress leader and Member of Parliament Amarinder Singh Raja Warring raised the issue, alleging that the photograph was listed at Part 38, Serial Number 422. He questioned how a freedom fighter’s image could appear in place of a voter’s photograph and criticised the election authorities over the matter on social media.
Responding to the allegations, the Ludhiana District Election Officer said the error had already been identified and corrected. According to the official, the discrepancy appeared in an earlier version of the electoral roll and remained in the draft voter list published on August 13, 2026. The mistake was subsequently detected and rectified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The official also said that the final voter list had been prepared with the correct photograph and was scheduled to be published on October 12, 2026. The episode has drawn attention to the accuracy of electoral records and the process used to verify voter details.
