Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has not been included in the BJP’s list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh. The party announced eight candidates for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant from the state, but Puri’s name was missing from the list. His current Rajya Sabha term is scheduled to end on November 25, making the BJP’s decision a notable development.
The BJP has named Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan and Shruti Gangwar as its candidates. Puri is currently the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. While reports have raised questions about his next political role following the omission from the Rajya Sabha list, there is no confirmed announcement yet that he will resign from the Union Cabinet before the end of his Rajya Sabha term.
