The Telangana Police Department has announced a major change to its Health Protection Scheme. According to an official circular, cashless medical treatment for police personnel and their family members at empanelled hospitals will be discontinued from July 1, 2026. The decision comes as the state prepares to implement a new employee healthcare system.
The Telangana government has decided to introduce a new healthcare scheme through the Employees Health Care Trust (EHCT). Under the new policy, government employees and pensioners will contribute 1.5% of their basic salary toward the scheme. Monthly deductions for the existing Health Protection Scheme have already been stopped from the June 2026 salary. The department stated that nearly 3,000 medical claims are processed every month and that cashless services are being discontinued as reimbursement under the existing system will no longer be available.
