Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament that the Andhra Pradesh government borrowed ₹1,69,341 crore over the last two financial years. According to the data, the state borrowed ₹82,855 crore in 2024–25 and ₹86,486 crore in 2025–26.
The Centre stated that reducing public debt and fiscal deficit is primarily the responsibility of state governments. Andhra Pradesh raised ₹78,205 crore through open market borrowings in 2024–25 and ₹82,272 crore in 2025–26. It also borrowed ₹900 crore from banks in 2024–25 and ₹1,633 crore in 2025–26.
