Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the construction of three lakh houses under PMAY-Gramin 2.0 at Burripalem in Tenali. Speaking after the foundation ceremony, he said the state had initially received a smaller allocation under the regular quota, but the Centre approved three lakh houses following the state government’s special request. He said Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had agreed to sanction another three lakh houses after the current homes are completed, followed by another allocation in the next year. Naidu said the government is working towards ensuring permanent houses for all homeless poor families in Andhra Pradesh by 2029.
The Chief Minister said owning a house improves people’s living standards and self-respect and recalled that providing homes to the poor was a vision associated with former Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao. He said the coalition government was focusing on welfare and development across all sections and regions. Naidu also announced rural development works worth thousands of crores and said the government plans to undertake further large-scale development in rural areas over the next five years. He added that pilot houses using 3D concrete printing technology would be constructed in Burripalem, with the technology expected to improve indoor thermal comfort. The Chief Minister also criticised the previous administration over housing cancellations, alleged irregularities and unsuitable house sites, while outlining measures to resolve land disputes and provide proper housing plots to the poor.
