Chennai-based deep-tech startup The ePlane Company has successfully completed the full-scale assembly of its electric air taxi, the e200X, marking a significant milestone in India's advanced aviation sector. The company said the aircraft has been built by integrating all major subsystems into a single airframe and is now set to enter the ground-testing phase. During this stage, engineers will evaluate the aircraft's onboard systems, aerodynamic performance and structural integrity before applying for type certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The company stated that it has already completed its first prototype (PT-01) and is now transitioning the e200X from the design and simulation stage to physical testing. The aircraft has been designed for three key applications—urban passenger transportation, cargo logistics and air ambulance services. Commercial cargo operations are expected to begin first, followed by passenger and medical services after regulatory approvals. The ePlane Company has raised 21 million US dollars (approximately ₹200 crore) to support the project.
