Chhattisgarh High Court Says Aadhaar Card Is Not a Reliable Proof of Age

The Chhattisgarh High Court has delivered an important judgment regarding the use of Aadhaar cards for age verification in motor accident compensation claims. The court observed that Aadhaar is primarily an identity and residence proof document and cannot be considered conclusive evidence of a person’s date of birth.

The court stated that official documents such as birth certificates issued by municipal authorities and school records should be considered more reliable for determining age. The judgment was delivered while hearing a motor vehicle accident insurance compensation case.

The High Court also made key observations on insurance companies’ liability. It clarified that accepting an insurance premium alone does not automatically make the insurer responsible, as the policy becomes effective only from the date and time mentioned in the insurance agreement.
