The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, has seized Chinese-origin fireworks valued at more than ₹12 crore at Chennai Port. The action followed specific intelligence indicating that prohibited fireworks were being illegally brought into the country through containers.
According to the information developed by the DRI, the consignments were allegedly misdeclared as various legitimate goods, including stationery items, medical gloves, plastic clips, hair bands, storage wardrobes and shoe racks. The seizure highlights the efforts of revenue intelligence authorities to detect and prevent illegal imports by identifying consignments that are deliberately misdeclared to evade scrutiny.
