Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant made significant observations while hearing petitions related to the CJP (Cockroach Janata Party) protests. He advised authorities to exercise maximum restraint while dealing with young student protesters, warning that excessive use of force by police could further escalate the situation. He stressed that maintaining peace should remain the top priority during public demonstrations.
The Supreme Court was hearing petitions seeking to hold the CJP responsible for alleged violence, stone-pelting, and property damage during protests in Delhi and other states. The bench tagged the matter with other petitions related to student demonstrations and observed that listening patiently to the concerns of young people is the most effective way to resolve tensions. The court said it would take a decision after examining the responses of the Centre and other stakeholders in the next hearing.
