Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to hold a special meeting with ministers on October 12 to review the impact of El Niño and the prevailing drought conditions in the state. Nearly 235 mandals are reportedly facing drought-like conditions. The meeting is expected to focus on the impact on agriculture, irrigation and drinking water supplies, the rising demand for electricity, and the immediate measures needed to address the situation.
The state government has recently urged the Centre to declare drought-affected mandals and provide adequate financial assistance. It has also sought a special package of ₹20,000 crore to tackle the situation and support affected sectors. The upcoming meeting is expected to review the challenges and discuss measures to reduce the impact of drought on farmers and the public.
