Compensation Must Be Paid for Crops Damaged by Drought – YS Sharmila

YS Sharmila has strongly criticized the Andhra Pradesh government over the severe agrarian crisis triggered by the El Nino effect, demanding immediate compensation for drought-affected farmers. She pointed out that the state recorded nearly a 69 percent rainfall deficit by the end of July, receiving only 86.51 mm of rainfall against the expected 166.76 mm. The impact has affected nearly 50 lakh acres, pushing agriculture into deep distress across Rayalaseema, North Coastal Andhra, and Coastal regions. She alleged that despite global warnings about El Nino, the government failed to prepare contingency plans or take preventive measures.

Sharmila further accused the ruling establishment of neglecting farmers while remaining occupied with political issues. She demanded compensation for damaged crops, free or subsidized seeds for alternative crops, proper irrigation arrangements, and rescheduling of agricultural loans. She also called for interest-free loans, comprehensive crop insurance, and subsidies for dairy farmers facing fodder shortages. Urging immediate action, she warned that continued negligence could lead to strong public backlash against the government.
