The Congress has criticised the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government, alleging that it spent Rs 6,811.94 crore on advertising and publicity over the past eight years. According to the party, the expenditure works out to an average of Rs 2.32 crore every day, which it claimed is higher than the Centre's average daily spending on publicity. The allegation has sparked renewed political debate over the government's priorities and use of public funds.
The party further argued that heavy spending on advertisements and media campaigns has helped create a perception of rapid transformation in Uttar Pradesh rather than reflecting actual improvements on the ground. It claimed that social media and publicity machinery have played a major role in shaping public opinion and questioned whether such expenditure should instead be directed toward governance and development. The Uttar Pradesh government has not issued an official response to these allegations.
