Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud has said the Congress will continue its campaign until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is removed from office. Speaking about the decisions taken at a high-tea meeting at Rahul Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday evening, Goud alleged that eligible voters were being unfairly removed from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He also raised concerns over elections in West Bengal, Bihar and Maharashtra, alleging that the voter-list revision process was being used to target secular voters. According to Goud, INDIA bloc leaders have decided to intensify protests against the SIR exercise across states. He added that a major march and public meeting would soon be organised in Hyderabad.
Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress stands by its challenge to BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao over the alleged deletion of voters’ names. He reiterated that the party would present evidence relating to voter deletions in Telangana. Meanwhile, MP Mallu Ravi demanded that the Centre withdraw its decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. The demand comes amid ongoing opposition protests over the electoral-roll revision process and concerns about voting rights. Delhi Police recently confirmed that Jantar Mantar had been denotified as a protest venue following a Supreme Court direction, with alternative locations identified for demonstrations.
