The Delhi High Court is set to pronounce its verdict today on Telegram's petition challenging the Central Government's temporary ban on the messaging platform ahead of the NEET-UG re-examination. Justice Tejas Karia, who heard the matter, is expected to deliver the judgment. Telegram has argued that the suspension affects millions of users and violates their digital rights.
During the hearing, the court questioned whether the rights of nearly 150 million users could be curtailed because of alleged misuse by a few individuals. The bench also sought clarification from the Centre regarding Telegram's monitoring mechanisms to prevent the circulation of leaked examination material. The government defended the temporary restriction, stating that the measure was necessary to protect the integrity of the NEET re-examination scheduled for June 21.
