Delhi is on heightened security alert ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), student organisations and opposition groups against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstrators are demanding accountability over voter-list revisions and have called for the CEC’s resignation. According to media reports, authorities have deployed a large number of police and central armed personnel, strengthened checks at Delhi’s entry points and increased security around sensitive locations. Delhi Police has not granted permission for the proposed gathering at Jantar Mantar, citing prohibitory restrictions.
Security measures reportedly include CCTV monitoring, facial-recognition systems and increased surveillance at railway and bus stations. Reports also indicate that police have asked the Delhi Metro to consider restricting access at 57 stations, while some rail services could face temporary disruption. CJP has alleged that its supporters travelling to Delhi were stopped at railway stations in Nagpur and Bhopal. These claims should be distinguished from independently confirmed details. Authorities are continuing preparations to manage crowds and prevent disruption as political tensions rise in the capital.
