Delhi Police has stepped up security and imposed traffic restrictions in central Delhi ahead of the INDIA bloc MPs’ planned march from Parliament to the Election Commission of India. The march is linked to the opposition’s protest over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and its demand for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Around 4,000 Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces personnel have been deployed across the New Delhi district.
Traffic movement is being regulated or diverted around Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Parliament Street and adjoining areas. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid affected routes and use alternative roads or public transport where possible. Mobile internet services have previously been suspended around Jantar Mantar during related protests, while security restrictions and barricading have been intensified in central Delhi.
