The Telangana Safe Food Wing and Enforcement officials conducted inspections at several hotels along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway, between Koyyalagudem and Kodad, starting at 11 a.m. today. During the inspections, officials reportedly found cockroaches and rats in storage areas and observed food being prepared in unhygienic kitchens. They also discovered insect-infested pulses and grains used as cooking ingredients. Other violations included improper storage of meat and dairy products without maintaining the required temperatures and keeping previously cooked food from the day before. These findings raised concerns about hygiene and food safety practices at the inspected establishments.
Officials also found some hotels operating with expired licences issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Based on the violations identified during the inspections, some hotels are being closed, while show-cause notices will be issued to certain establishments seeking explanations for the lapses. Improvement notices will also be served on other hotels, directing them to rectify the identified deficiencies. The inspections are aimed at addressing food safety violations and ensuring that hotels comply with the prescribed hygiene and food handling standards.
