The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered Everest Food Products to immediately recall a specific batch of its pre-packed cumin powder from the market. A regulatory sample collected from Riverside Resorts & Holiday Homes in Goa was found to contain residues of the pesticides Azoxystrobin and Thiamethoxam above the prescribed maximum limits. Following an appeal by the company, the sample was tested at a Referral Food Laboratory, which also confirmed it as “unsafe”.
FSSAI has directed Everest to recall the entire affected batch, maintain complete records of the recalled products and submit the required recall reports. In a separate enforcement action, the regulator suspended the licence of West Bengal-based Creative Bakers and Confectioners Pvt Ltd with immediate effect over serious hygiene and food-safety violations. Inspectors reported dirt, grease, dust, cobwebs, flies, pest infestation, open storage of perishable raw materials and deficiencies in mandatory food-safety records and monitoring systems.
