The Telangana High Court has put the brakes on the elections of the Telugu Film and TV Dancers and Dance Directors Association, which were scheduled for October 11. The court issued interim orders directing that the election process remain suspended until further orders, bringing a temporary halt to the dispute within the Tollywood dancers’ union. The development has triggered discussion in film industry circles, as the future of the association’s leadership now depends on the ongoing legal proceedings.
The dispute arose after the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation reportedly decided to dissolve the association on September 23 and issued an election notification the following day. Association president Sumalatha Devi challenged the decision, arguing that the current committee’s term continues until December 6, 2027, and that holding elections before then would be invalid. After the trial court declined interim relief and scheduled the next hearing for November 3, she approached the High Court, expressing concern that the elections could take place before the dispute was resolved. On October 8, Justice M.B. Lakshmi observed that the trial court’s order did not clearly explain the reasons for denying interim protection. The High Court suspended that order, directed that the elections not be conducted for now and ordered notices to be issued to the federation. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on October 30, after the Dussehra holidays. The stay is interim, and a final decision is still awaited.
