Large-blade fans are increasingly becoming popular in function halls, conference rooms, temples and modern homes. Known as HVLS (High Volume Low Speed) fans or large-blade designer fans, these models rotate slowly but circulate a large volume of air across wider areas. Many models use BLDC motors, which can significantly reduce power consumption compared with conventional fans. Their aerodynamic blades are also designed to distribute air more evenly while producing very little noise, making them suitable for bedrooms, living rooms and large spaces. Some models also feature a reverse mode that can help circulate warm air during winter.
However, HVLS fans also have certain limitations. People who prefer the strong, fast airflow of conventional fans may find them slower. Their BLDC motors and electronic components can require specialised servicing, and replacement parts may be more expensive after the warranty period. They generally need a ceiling height of around 9–10 feet for proper airflow and safe operation. Some models rely mainly on remote controls rather than conventional wall regulators. Premium models offer timers, sleep modes, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, and compatibility with Alexa and Google Home. Prices generally range from around ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 or more, depending on blade size, design and smart features.
