India recorded a 43% rainfall deficit during June this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency stated that such a significant shortfall has occurred only for the fifth time in the past 125 years. Central India recorded a 56% deficit, the Northeast 43%, South India 31%, and Northwest India 29%.
The Ministry of Agriculture has warned that 315 districts across the country could be affected by deficient rainfall. Of these, 111 districts have been classified as "high alert" areas. Districts from 12 states, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are part of the list, prompting authorities to advise farmers and local administrations to remain vigilant and prepare for possible drought-related challenges.
