Incident of attack while being taken to court

Tension prevailed in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district after the arrest of Abhijit Chatterjee, son of Naihati Municipal Chairman Ashok Chatterjee. Police arrested him on serious charges including attempted murder, rape, threats, extortion, and illegal possession of arms and explosives. Multiple cases have been registered under the Arms Act and Explosives Act.

Naihati police produced the accused before the Barrackpore Sub-Divisional Court, where he was sent to judicial custody. As he was being taken to court, local residents and BJP workers expressed strong anger, and reportedly attacked him with eggs and slippers, leading to further tension in the area.
