India Slams NYT Over Kashmir Terminology

The Embassy of India in the United States has strongly criticised The New York Times for using the term “Pakistani Kashmir” in a headline, calling it misleading and factually incorrect. Reacting to a report on unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the embassy stated on X that there is no such entity as “Pakistani Kashmir” and reiterated that the correct term is Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The embassy reaffirmed India’s long-standing position that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, and that Pakistan remains in illegal occupation of certain areas. It urged the publication to use accurate terminology in its reporting. The criticism was limited to the headline, and as of now, The New York Times has not issued any response or made changes.
