‘Intintaa Indiramma Sewing Machines’ for BC Women: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar

The Telangana government has launched the ‘Intintaa Indiramma Sewing Machines’ scheme aimed at empowering BC women financially and promoting self-employment through tailoring. Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar formally launched the scheme at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat. He said the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is giving priority to the economic empowerment and self-employment of BC women. Automatic sewing machines will be provided with a 100 percent subsidy, with the objective of helping women become self-employed entrepreneurs rather than remaining beneficiaries of government schemes.

A total of 1,19,000 automatic sewing machines will be distributed across 119 Assembly constituencies, with 1,000 machines allocated to each constituency. Each machine is valued at Rs 12,000 and will be provided entirely free of cost to eligible beneficiaries. Applications will be accepted from eligible BC women between August 15 and September 15. Priority will be given to the poorest women, widows, single women, homeless women, orphans, persons with disabilities and those with experience in tailoring, as per government guidelines. The first phase will benefit 1.19 lakh women, while the government plans to expand the scheme further in the future.
