Jammu and Kashmir authorities carried out a demolition drive in Sopore, Baramulla district, on Tuesday, removing a shed that officials said had been constructed on government land. According to the Revenue Department, the structure was located on flood-affected land and was allegedly built in violation of government land regulations. Officials identified the property as being associated with members of the family of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.
Revenue officials said family members of Afzal Guru had constructed the shed and were residing there. The structure was subsequently demolished as part of action against alleged encroachment on government property. Afzal Guru was convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case and was executed in 2013 after his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court. Authorities have also linked him to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror organisation.
