Jharkhand Students Clash With Police During Assembly March

Tensions prevailed in Jharkhand as thousands of students and job aspirants took to the streets over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) preliminary examination. Led by student leader Devendranath Mahato, the protesters marched towards the state Assembly, demanding comprehensive reforms in recruitment examinations. As the demonstrators pushed through barricades, police deployed water cannons to prevent them from moving towards the Assembly. Security was tightened in the area to prevent any untoward incident, while six students continued their hunger strike as part of the agitation.

The protests intensified after allegations of a question paper leak surfaced in the JPSC preliminary examination. Three JPSC members resigned from their posts on Sunday and are scheduled to be questioned by the CID from August 10. Police have already arrested 19 people in connection with the case and intensified the investigation. The government held discussions with the protesters and reportedly responded positively to several of their demands. However, students said they would continue their agitation because the government had not given a clear response to their key demand for a CBI investigation.
