The Karnataka Choultry issue in Tirumala is increasingly turning into a political controversy, with questions being raised over the Karnataka government’s decision to transfer its management from the Endowments Department to the Tourism Department without obtaining approval from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). According to the information provided, the revenue generated by the choultry is to be shared equally between the Endowments and Tourism departments, with each receiving a 50% share. The decision has drawn criticism from the BJP and Jana Sena, while the TTD and the Telugu Desam Party have not yet publicly responded to the controversy.
BJP leader Bhanu Prakash Reddy has reportedly written to the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, urging them to cancel the memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to the arrangement. Despite the criticism, the Karnataka government is said to be continuing the transfer process. The dispute has brought the choultry’s management, the terms of the MoU and the role of the concerned authorities into focus. Further developments may depend on the responses of the two state governments and the TTD.
