Kerala Scientist Wins Prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship

Kerala based young scientist Ann Sunny has won the prestigious Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellowship offered by the European Union. Selected through a highly competitive international process from 32 candidates worldwide, she will receive around ₹1.5 crore in funding for a three year research programme. Ann will continue her research at Niccolò Cusano University in Rome, Italy, focusing on bioceramic materials for the prevention and treatment of bone-related rheumatoid diseases. Her work could contribute to improved treatments for patients suffering from bone and joint disorders, particularly in bone regeneration and disease management.

Hailing from Nellankara in Thrissur district, Ann showed academic excellence from a young age. She completed her schooling at Sharjah Indian School, earned a Chemistry Honours degree from Sri Venkateswara College in Delhi, and later completed an MSc in Chemistry from VIT Vellore. She developed an interest in research during her undergraduate studies, with one of her research papers published in an international journal. Her work in bioceramics has focused on finding scientific solutions for bone and joint problems. The Marie Curie Fellowship will allow her to expand this research in Italy, making her achievement an inspiring example for young Indians aspiring to pursue careers in science and technology.
