P. S. Narasimha is set to assume charge as a member of the Supreme Court Collegium following the retirement of J. K. Maheshwari, who completed five years of service and demitted office on Sunday. With this development, Justice Narasimha, currently the fifth senior-most judge in the apex court, will officially become part of the Collegium, the body responsible for judicial appointments and transfers.
He will continue in this role until his retirement on May 2, 2028. The Collegium will now comprise Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, B. V. Nagarathna, M. M. Sundresh, and Justice Narasimha. This transition marks a significant development in the functioning of the Supreme Court of India.
