Kolkata-Bound Flight Narrowly Escapes Disaster.. Laser Beam Hits Cockpit

A major mishap was narrowly averted involving Malaysia Airlines flight MH184, which arrived in Kolkata from Kuala Lumpur with 159 passengers on board on Saturday night. As the aircraft was preparing to land, unexpected laser beams were directed into the cockpit. The laser light reportedly struck the pilot’s eyes, causing temporary difficulty in visibility. Alert to the danger, the pilot immediately aborted the landing attempt and kept the aircraft circling safely in the air for some time.

After conditions returned to normal, the aircraft landed safely on the runway, albeit with a delay. The incident brought relief to the 159 passengers and airport authorities. Aviation officials expressed concern over the incident despite strict restrictions on the use of laser lights near airports and aircraft flight paths. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Special teams are working to identify the location from where the laser beams were directed and are collecting evidence.
