The new liquor policy for 2026–27 has generated ₹817 crore in revenue for the Andhra Pradesh government through licence renewals and application fees. The Excise Department had estimated revenue of ₹900 crore, but the number of applications fell short of expectations. Of the 3,652 liquor shops across the state, licences for 2,929 shops were renewed. Under the policy, the renewal retail excise tax was fixed at 38 per cent of the licence fee.
Following the renewals, the Excise Department invited applications for the lottery-based allotment of 807 shops, including those left unallocated earlier. As many as 517 shops received four or more applications, while several others witnessed a weak response. In some areas, no applications were received for individual shops. Officials said the renewal and allotment process had been completed for 92 per cent of the shops. The department is now focusing on the allocation of the remaining outlets.
