Major Approvals for Renewable Energy Projects in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to fast-track the implementation of approved renewable energy projects across the state. The Chief Minister is reviewing the progress with officials every month. One officer has been appointed for each district based on the erstwhile unified districts, while a project director has been assigned for every three districts. The government is also utilising the services of retired Revenue and Forest Department officials to speed up land acquisition. To meet the growing power requirements of industries, the state has set a target of developing 160.50 GW of renewable energy capacity. Incentives have been announced under the AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy to promote wind, solar, pumped storage power and battery energy storage system projects.

Over the past two years, the government has signed agreements for investments of around ₹23 lakh crore across various sectors. Approvals have already been granted to 49 companies for renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 112.45 GW, potentially attracting around ₹6.99 lakh crore in investments and generating employment for 5.46 lakh people. The government has also approved 11,457 tonnes-per-day capacity for compressed biogas plants against a target of 10,000 TPD. Reliance is expected to invest ₹65,456 crore in setting up 500 CBG plants, potentially creating 2.52 lakh jobs. In addition, approvals have been granted for 2 GW of electrolyser manufacturing projects with investments of ₹2,000 crore, while a 1 MMT per annum green hydrogen project has also received approval as part of the state’s 1.5 MMT annual production target.
