

Indian Railways has utilised more than ₹1.14 lakh crore till July 2026, accounting for nearly 39 percent of the total budgetary allocation of ₹2.93 lakh crore for the financial year 2026-27. As part of its safety initiatives, the Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system has been successfully commissioned across 2,633 route kilometres, covering key sections of the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes.
The Railways has spent ₹3,875 crore on Kavach-related works till June 2026 to enhance safety. It is also undertaking major capacity expansion through 514 infrastructure projects covering around 40,000 kilometres, with an estimated investment of ₹8.31 lakh crore. Around six lakh railway employees are being trained annually through specialised institutes and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to improve professional skills.
