Massive Flood Inflows Rush Into Srisailam Reservoir

Heavy inflows from the upper reaches of the Krishna River are rapidly increasing the water level in the Srisailam Reservoir, a lifeline for irrigation and drinking water in the Telugu states. Around 243,867 cusecs of floodwater is reaching the reservoir from the Jurala Project, taking the storage level to 131.26 TMC. Officials said the reservoir has received 88.19 TMC of inflows over the past eight days. Meanwhile, the Tungabhadra Reservoir is also receiving significant inflows, with its storage currently at 59.718 TMC.

On the other hand, Telangana began power generation at the Srisailam Left Bank Hydroelectric Station, releasing water towards the Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir. However, following concerns raised by Rayalaseema residents over releasing water before the reservoir reached full capacity, power generation was halted later in the day. While farmers are optimistic about irrigation prospects, the government remains cautious about water releases due to concerns over the possible impact of El Niño.
