A massive shark that entered an artificially constructed waterway at Busan North Port Waterfront Park in South Korea has become a major attraction, drawing around one million visitors within just 18 days. The shark entered the canal on September 18, after which officials began investigating how it reached the man-made waterway. Authorities identified the animal, named “Bukang-i,” as a female dusky shark belonging to an endangered species. Officials have made arrangements to monitor its health and provide adequate food.
Authorities have attempted to guide the shark back towards the open sea, but it continues to swim around the canal. Officials said they would wait and allow the shark to leave on its own if possible. If it remains trapped, they plan to safely capture it using nets and release it back into the sea. Meanwhile, the unexpected visitor has also created a business opportunity for local traders, who are reportedly selling shark-themed toys and other merchandise to visitors.
