Renowned Indian chess player Koneru Humpy, accompanied by her father Ashok, met Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh at his residence in Undavalli on Friday. Lokesh congratulated Humpy on her recent achievements at the 2026 Chess Olympiad, where the Indian women’s team won a bronze medal and Humpy secured an individual bronze medal while playing on Board 1.
During the meeting, Humpy requested the state government’s support for establishing a chess academy in Amaravati. Responding positively to her appeal, Lokesh assured her that the government would extend the necessary assistance and cooperation. The proposed academy could help strengthen chess training facilities and provide aspiring players with better opportunities to develop their skills.
