

The Central Government has officially honoured the soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Sindoor, the military operation carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The names of the fallen personnel have now been added to the official website of the National War Memorial. They will also be permanently inscribed on a commemorative plaque at the National War Memorial near India Gate in New Delhi, recognising their supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The martyrs include five Army personnel and one Agniveer: Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, Sergeant Surendra Kumar of the Indian Air Force, and Agniveer Murali Nayak. Rifleman Sunil Kumar was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, while Sergeant Surendra Kumar received the Vayu Medal. Agniveer Murali Nayak, a native of Sri Sathya Sai district in Andhra Pradesh, was killed during cross-border firing while serving in Jammu and Kashmir. Operation Sindoor was launched following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
