There is no timeframe for extraditing former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to her country, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi said. He stressed that no one—including India—had set a deadline for her return.Trivedi was responding to Bangladesh’s repeated requests for Hasina’s extradition. He said India was examining the request through a legal process. He made the remarks at an event hosted by a private organisation in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital.
“Bangladesh keeps requesting that Hasina be handed over to them, and we keep saying that India is proceeding through a legal process on the matter. We did not bring Hasina to India. Neither the Indian Air Force nor the Indian Army brought her here. She came to India herself while serving as prime minister. Given the circumstances in Bangladesh at the time, we agreed to let her stay in our country. The violence that took place in Bangladesh then should not happen in any other country,” Trivedi said.
