Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said Telangana is supplying electricity continuously without power cuts despite a significant rise in demand across the state. He said the peak power demand, which stood at around 15,000 MW during the same period earlier, has now increased to nearly 20,000 MW. Due to drought-like conditions attributed to the El Niño effect, reduced water availability in rivers and projects has led to a decline of around 4,000 MW in hydropower generation. Despite the additional burden, Transco, SPDCL and NPDCL are efficiently maintaining uninterrupted power supply, he said.
Bhatti said all hydropower projects in Telangana are ready to generate electricity at full capacity, but inadequate water availability has affected generation. He said the increased nighttime demand is being managed through thermal power and reiterated the government’s commitment to providing 24-hour electricity to domestic consumers. He also urged people to use water carefully in view of the possibility of water shortages if rainfall remains below expectations. Meanwhile, he said he participated in the construction programme for a centralised kitchen aimed at providing breakfast to 27 lakh students studying in government schools across the state.
