According to weather observations, Telangana’s southwest monsoon is expected to remain stable during August despite the ongoing El Niño conditions. After a strong recovery in the second half of July due to a depression and widespread rainfall, the state is likely to continue receiving seasonal rainfall supported by low-pressure systems and isolated thunderstorms.
Meteorologists say a slightly strengthening Positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is currently offsetting the suppressing influence of El Niño, while the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) remains in a neutral phase. This combination is helping the monsoon remain active during the peak rainy season. However, experts expect rainfall to remain close to normal levels rather than reaching the exceptionally high totals recorded during the 2025 monsoon.
