Pre-Ride Tipping on Ride-Hailing Apps May No Longer Be Allowed

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has asked motor vehicle aggregators to stop encouraging passengers to make additional payments through pre-ride tipping options. The ministry has directed ride-hailing platforms not to ask passengers to provide tips before their journey as part of the booking process.

The move comes after reports that some ride-hailing apps were displaying messages encouraging passengers to tip in advance, with suggestions that such payments could improve their chances of getting a ride quickly.
