Putin Announces Major Changes in Russia’s Defence Setup

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a major restructuring of the country’s defence system with several high-level appointments in the Ministry of Defence. The changes were revealed during a high-level Kremlin meeting attended by Defence Minister Andrei Belousov and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. The move focuses on improving military command, logistics operations, and overall efficiency.

Under the new appointments, Alexander Sanchik has been named Deputy Defence Minister with responsibility for weapons procurement and supply, while Valery Solodchuk will oversee logistics services. Andrei Ivanayev has been appointed commander of the Centre Group of Forces operating in the Donetsk region, while Pyotr Bolgarev will serve as acting commander of the Eastern Military District. Denis Lyamin has been given charge of the newly created unmanned systems forces. The changes come after Putin recently approved an increase in military personnel, raising Russia’s total military strength to 2,426,130 personnel.
